Our client, a mid size oil and gas exploration company has oil and gas assets at variable stages of maturity that range from exploration through appraisal of discoveries to mature field development.
Position Overview:
Our client is seeking a Contract Geologist for its Calgary office to work with an interdisciplinary team responsible for the company’s assets. Reporting to the Manager of Geology and Geophysics, the major responsibility for this position will be to prepare and update detailed subsurface maps of exploration opportunities and existing multi-zone pools. The geologist will monitor competitor activity in the areas they are responsible for and bring learnings from analogue pools to bear on the company’s assets. As part of a team they will be expected to generate technically rigorous well locations and propose them to management, partners, government agencies and other external parties. In conjunction with a geophysicist, engineer and petrophysicist, they will prepare volumetric assessments of all opportunities and validate them with external reserve auditors.
Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
- Mapping and volumetric assessment of reservoirs
- Pool appraisal and development
- Incorporate regional trends of facies, net pay, porosity into prospect volumetrics and risk
- Assist in the preparation of reservoir models
- Recommend, plan and drill exploration, appraisal and development wells
- Clearly elaborate, formulate and communicate plans to move forward
- Refinement of existing prospect inventory and well planning
- Field development planning
- Planning 2D & 3D seismic acquisition
- Interpretation and prospect generation in future 3D seismic areas
- Identify workover and recompletion opportunities
- Production monitoring and well interventions (recompletions, fracking), infill drilling
- Quantification of fracture distribution (image logs)
Qualifications and Experience:
- B.Sc. Geology, M.Sc. or Ph.D. is preferred
- Professional Geologist designation from APEGA required (P. Geol.)
- 15 – 25 years’ industry experience (majority with an operating company)
- Major or Senior company training
- Experience with detailed subsurface field mapping (depth structure, faults, isopach, net pay and palaeogeographic maps), cross-sections and facies interpretation
- Significant experience with conventional clastic reservoirs
- Experience with unconventional and naturally fractured reservoirs an asset
- Familiarity with resource volumetric assessment and risk quantification
- Strong ability to “sell” prospects in both graphical material and oral presentations
- Experience in geomodelling would be an asset
